What is Lauenensee and how far is it from the hotel?

Lauenensee – Lake Lauenen – is one of the most celebrated natural landmarks in the Gstaad region, situated approximately 12 kilometres from the hotel in a protected nature reserve of national importance. The turquoise Alpine lake at 1,381 metres above sea level is surrounded by pristine moorland, waterfalls, and the imposing Spitzhorn peak. It can be reached by car in around 20 minutes, or by post bus from Gstaad train station. The circular walk around the lake takes approximately one hour and is one of the most beautiful easy hikes in the Bernese Oberland. In summer it is possible to swim in the lake. What is Château d'Oex and is it worth visiting from Gstaad?

Château d’Oex is a charming traditional Swiss village in the Pays-d’Enhaut valley, approximately 15 kilometres from Gstaad and easily reached by train or car. It is internationally known as the hot air ballooning capital of Switzerland, hosting the world’s largest annual balloon festival each January. The village is also celebrated for its centuries-old chalets, traditional cheese production of L’Etivaz AOP, and the Musée du Pays-d’Enhaut, showcasing the delicate art of Swiss paper-cutting. Is Rougemont worth visiting from Gstaad?

Yes. Rougemont is a beautifully preserved medieval village just a few kilometres from Gstaad, reachable by train in minutes. Its Cluniac priory – founded in 1080 – and traditional wooden chalet architecture make it one of the most authentic and photogenic villages in the region. It sits at the border of French-speaking and German-speaking Switzerland, giving it a distinctive cultural character. A visit pairs naturally with a walk along the Saane river or an excursion toward Château d’Oex.

What is Saanen and is it worth a visit?

Saanen is the historic municipality that encompasses Gstaad – the original village from which the wider region takes its name. Its 16th-century church and traditional timber-framed architecture offer a glimpse into the Bernese Oberland’s authentic heritage. It is a short, easy walk or bus ride from Le Grand Bellevue and well worth a quiet afternoon stroll.
